Sony details Android 4.0 upgrades to Xperia range
Sony has just announced that it will begin rolling out the Android 4.0 update to its 2011 Xperia smartphones starting in mid-April. The first phones to get the update will be the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V, and Xperia ray. The phones will get updated over the course of four to six weeks, depending on their carrier and market they're sold in.
The Xperia arc, Xperia Play, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will be upgraded to the latest Android OS late in May or early in June. The new Sony Xperia S won't be upgraded until later on this spring, but more information is promised at or near the same time.
Sony does warn users that some aspects of their phone's performance will be negatively affected by the update, as Android 4.0 is more hardware-intensive in some cases. It outlined the changes online and will also make the update downloadable only over the PC Companion and Bridge for Mac apps, not over 3G or Wi-Fi. Users will not get update requests or notifications on their phones.
