Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX get Android 4 soak, leak

Motorola may be on the verge of releasing its Android 4.0 upgrade, at least in test form, for at least the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX. Just days after notice of a soak test of an unknown update for willing early adopters, a leaked build has emerged of Android 4.0.3 for the extra-thin Verizon smartphones. The firmware seen at DroidRzr was clearly unfinished and risky, but was also apparently official as it had an updated cellular radio baseband and a new version of the Webtop pseudo-desktop interface.

Since-corroborated leaks from Best Buy have suggested that the updates could arrive next week. Whether or not this was final, however, wasn't apparent. A soak test would have to start in advance to make sure that it was safe enough for widespread use. With only a few days at most to run the soak test, it's possible that only some testers might have Android 4.0 by the April 4 schedule rather than mainstream users.

The same rumors had the HTC Rezound getting Android 4.0 this coming Friday. If so, Verizon may have some of its most important phones up to date after previously having just the Galaxy Nexus running the new OS. [via Droid-Life]
