Air Display app adds support for iPad Retina display

Tablet serves as 2048x1536 monitor

Avatron's Air Display update has been approved and added to the App Store ($10, iTunes), enabling users to take advantage of the new iPad's Retina display. Users who run the wireless display app from a Retina device can now enable the HiDPI display mode that had been hidden in Mac OS X Lion, bringing the maximum output resolution up to 2048x1536.

The company claims to have optimized frame rates when running in HiDPI mode, despite the additional resources needed to render and transmit the higher resolution. Users can still choose to view content at non-Retina resolutions.

Aside from Retina support, the update also resolves issues related to NVIDIA 9400M/9600M video adapters, modifier keys on Bluetooth keyboards, and frame rates on all devices.

Air Display is available as a universal app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
