LG Viper 4G LTE gets launch details

Sprint officially crowned its first LTE smartphone on Tuesday, giving the distinction to the LG Viper 4G LTE. The Android 2.3 hardware will get pre-orders on April 12 at one of the lower prices for LTE, at $100 on a contract. Smartphone plans cost the same and, at a starting $80, is both one of the less expensive LTE offerings and the only one with with unlimited (if on-device) data.

The Viper is one of the few moderately sized LTE phones on the market and carries a four-inch, 480x800 display rather than the extra-large phones of its peers. It sits strictly in the mid-range with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a five-megapixel rear camera, a VGA front camera, and 4GB of built-in space. A microSDHC slot allows for 32GB more.

It will also be the second phone to ship on Sprint with NFC inside and, accordingly, Google Wallet support.

Customizations stay light on the Android build outside of Sprint ID and a handful of key apps for voicemail. A deal with Box.net gives 50GB of free cloud space for those who sign up by July 22.
