Phone ships ahead of expected availability Sunday

AT&T has begun shipping the Nokia Lumia 900 ahead of schedule. The Verge reports that some customers who ordered the Windows Phone when it went up for pre-order last Friday have already received their units. The black and cyan versions are scheduled to arrive this Sunday, with the white version to follow April 22.

The Lumia 900 is Nokia's flagship Windows Phone. AT&T has engaged in a strong marketing effort to push the phone, which will include a TV advertising campaign and a kick-off event at Times Square later this evening with Nicki Minaj performing for the crowd. AT&T claims that the launch will be bigger than that of the new iPhone.

Both Nokia and AT&T are hoping that the phone will be a successful competitor to both Android smartphones and Apple iPhones. AT&T has priced the device aggressively at $100 with a two-year contract.
