Available on Dodge Dart this year
Chrysler will introduce in-vehicle wireless charging, an industry first, as an optional extra for the 2013 Dodge Dart when it becomes available in the second quarter of this year. Mopar, a division of Chrysler Group, have made a small charging bin that fits in the center console which charges a phone fitted with a specially designed case when the engine is running.
Wireless charging allows for the phone to be charged without the need to plug it into a cradle and without attaching a cable to the power socket, saving time and the need to carry an in-car charger in the glove box. It's unclear what exact method is being used by Mopar, but it's likely to be induction.
The wireless charging bin will be on sale for $200 without installation.

If they can agree on a standard that can be built into devices, people might start to care. Until then, does anybody really want to have to keep their phone in some clunky case all the time just so it can use the wireless charger?
