T-Mobile readies HTC One S for April 25 as iPhone contender

HTC One S tentatively date in T-Mobile leak

HTC's One S got clues it was much closer to release after leaks of internal staff training. Material passed on to TmoNews have it selling the phone on April 25, which is likely "Final" barring a delay. The copies mostly recap features, but also position the One S as one of if not the most important phone T-Mobile will have for the spring.

The carrier tellingly considers the One S its direct answer to the iPhone 4S, and is training staff to try to play to the phone's strengths. It points to genuine advantages, such as the very thin 7.95mm (0.31in) body and Wi-Fi calling, as well as advantages that are more ambiguous. The 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 isn't necessarily faster in most areas than the iPhone 4S, and elements like Beats Audio (software EQ), the Pentile AMOLED screen, and Android 4.0 are more subjective differences for some users.

Other phones in the mix are oddly chosen and include the Motorola Droid 4, and HTC's own but year-old Evo 3D on Sprint.

T-Mobile has often touted its Android lineup as superior to the iPhone, but it has also made clear that it still sees the iPhone as more important. It directly blamed fall losses on a lack of an iPhone deal. It has been explicit in saying that its spectrum refarming will support the iPhone without having to change 3G bands.
