Adam 2 battery concerns stop display upgrade

The Adam 2 will not have a HD display due to various battery requirements. Notion Ink CEO Rohan Shraven explained on the company blog that it is a combination of preserving the battery life of the device and potentially crippling charging times.

In order to use a 10-inch display at a resolution of 1920x1200, the battery would have to be changed from 25Whr to 45Whr to keep the battery life at a similar level. This would increase the potential weigh of the device. The more pressing concern is that it will take over 90 hours to charge via USB. Charging from a wall outlet adapter would take four and a half hours, which is still higher than their target of two and a half hours.

There were also concerns regarding suitable applications for such a display, but with the hope that more will appear on Android in the future.
