Apple rumored testing iTunes 11 with iCloud control

iTunes 11 leaks surface with first clues

New rumors mixed with more concrete details has pointed to Apple actively testing iTunes 11. Test build screenshots slipped to 9to5 purportedly have a central iCloud panel that would control all iTunes-related iCloud features, such as iTunes Match or device backups. The build would also have iOS 6 compatibility, although it might not be necessary and could be preceded by a 10.x update instead.

Apple's iTunes Store revamp was also supposedly being timed for a launch in the second half of the year. The company's acquisition of Chomp had led to a specific iTunes content discovery task force, according to the rumor.

The app as shown looked familiar, although Apple may be developing different components independently and integrating them at a later point.

iTunes 10 has been one of Apple's longest-serving versions of its jukebox app. It was first unveiled in September 2010 and, while getting interim feature upgrades, has been mostly the same underneath. A major version number would point to more substantial upgrades, whether it involves iCloud or a new interface.

    Maybe not *that* substantial

"A major version number would point to more substantial upgrades"

Not necessarily. iTunes 5 for example wasn't that much "substantially" different from iTunes 4.x. Apple doesn't regard a major new version number as an indicator of a whole bunch of awesome new features anymore, just like others in the industry. Don't get me started on Firefox.
