Roku HD arrives unannounced

The Roku HD that recently surfaced at the FCC has materialized in stores. Dave Zatz spotted the media hub at a retail store, already on sale for $60. Its features, such as 720p playback and the rounded design, suggest that it's a cost-cutting version of the Roku 2 HD at the same price.

Technology writer John Falcone noticed that the Roku HD drops the Bluetooth and SD card slot. Why it would lose the features but keep the same price isn't apparent, although it might be to boost profit margins or better upsell viewers to the higher-end models. The lineup already has four Roku boxes and, if none of them disappear, would get a fifth.

Roku hasn't commented on the discovery or its ultimate plans.
