Nokia gives Orange first taste of Lumia 610 NFC

Nokia has unveiled a new version of its Lumia 610 Windows Phone for Orange that also packs NFC support. Until now, the feature has been reserved for handsets higher up in its Lumia range and is the first time it has appeared on its entry-level Lumia smartphone. Nokia says that it has built-in the necessary hardware and software enablers for the implementation of NFC payment and ticketing solutions, while it also compatible with both Mastercard and Visa's POS NFC devices.

When the NFC-equipped version of the Lumia 610 ships in the third-quarter of this year, it will be available in four color options including, cyan, white, black and magenta. Beyond the addition of NFC, the Lumia 610 NFC remains unchanged in just about every other way. It retains its 3.7-inch LCD display with an 800x480 pixel resolution and its 8GB of internal memory.

The Lumia 610 NFC continues to run Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango), which it powers with a Snapdragon processor thought to be clocked at up to 1GHz matched with 256MB of RAM. It will ship additional standard Nokia apps, in addition to the typical pre-installed WP7 software. This includes Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Pulse and Mix Radio.
