Resolution 1024x768 not most popular worldwide

Screens with a 1366x768 resolution have overtaken 1024x768 as the most used screen resolution on the internet. According to data from StatCounter (below), the change in popularity happened in March this year based on worldwide data.

The drop in users of 1024x768 from over 40 percent in March 2009 to under 20 percent in March 2012 would most likely be attributed to the availability of higher resolution displays, with the prevalence of sub-15-inch laptops explaining much of the rise of 1366x768. Other resolutions overall remain static in their usage.

There also appears to be a difference in the time of the switch depending on the region. Europe changed in September with both 1366x768 and 1280x800 rising above 1024x768, which is still the leader in North America, beating 1366x768 by 0.72 percent.
