Nintendo 3DS arrives at Louvre as tourist guide

As reported last year, Nintendo's 3DS has now began serving as the tourist guide at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Officially called The Audioguide Louvre - Nintendo 3DS, it's an audio guide that has visual tools to enhance the museum-going experience. An interactive map is also preloaded, also letting users know their location in the museum.

The game console will have more than 700 commentaries related to the Louvre's many exhibits and the building itself. Many of the commentaries will have associated photos, most in high resolution. Each visitor can custom-tailor the guide to their own tastes. The commentaries are from the museum's curators and lecturers.

Those on a time limit can choose to hear only about the museum's major works of art. They can then create their own itinerary. First-time visitors can also choose from two 45-minute introductory tours. One is called Masterpieces, while the other, due out soon, is dubbed Egypt and meant for all the family.

An Adapted tour is in the works for hearing or visually impaired visitors. The former get a French sign language tour, while the latter can visit the special touch gallery.
