Nokia posts Lumia 900 data fix bug three days early

Nokia Lumia 900 gets vital fix ahead of time

Nokia gave a surprise for the weekend with word that its promised data fix for the Lumia 900 was already available. The new update solves a problem where all cellular data would stop working after the phone was restarted, requiring an extensive trick to get it back. Nokia had previously pinned the flaw on a memory management hiccup.

The update is immediately available and requires syncing either with the Zune app on a Windows PC or Windows Phone 7 Connector on a Mac. Those who can't or are unwilling to sync with a computer can still visit a store before April 21 and get the phone swapped for one with already updated firmware.

A fix was rushed to market to head off a potential disaster for the Lumia 900 just a week after its launch. So far, Nokia has surpassed expectations for AT&T's sales, but it was concerned enough that it gave a $100 credit to anyone buying the phone up to April 21, effectively making the Windows Phone free.
