Xperia arc S, neo V, ray first to get Android 4

Sony wrapped up the week with official word that its Android 4.0 upgrades had started. The Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V, and Xperia ray are getting the modern OS today, starting with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and the mobile division's home of Sweden. More countries that carry those three phones should get the update over the next four to six weeks.

The next wave would include the Xperia arc, Xperia Play, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, and Live with Walkman. Their updates should start in late May or early June.

Updating won't work over-the-air and will demand a USB link to either a Mac or a Windows PC.

Android 4.0 will give certain new interface elements and underlying support for apps like Chrome for Android. Sony has warned that the update may not be uniformly positive, as the extra demands from the OS may put extra strain on the lower-end devices in the group, like the minis or the Live with Walkman.

The Xperia S, Xperia P, and Xperia U are all supposed to get their Android 4.0 updates in the spring.
