Android customers get limited-time offer

Google has entered into a partnership with Indian telecom Reliance provider to offer 1GB of 3G data for free to Indian 3G Android users, Indian tech site tech2 reports. The move comes as Reliance attempts to attract more users to its high-speed data services. Between April 15 and June 15, 2012, new and existing Reliance customers who get or plan to get a 3G Android phone will be able to take home 1GB of free data on Reliance's 3G network.

Reliance has in the past partnered with manufacturers for distribution and special offers, such as when the telecom giant inked a deal with Apple to open 10 Apple iStores in India. More recently, Reliance was believed to be in talks with Apple to bring a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 to India.

Google hopes the free data offer will be helpful in its efforts to expand Android's penetration into growing markets. Presently, both 3G and 4G technologies have only a small foothold in the Indian market, but providers hope lower device prices will drive greater adoption.
