Ikea gets into electronics with the help of TCL

Swedish assembly-required furniture maker Ikea has now gotten into electronics with the Uppleva, which translates to Experience. The design is a home theater system with the HDTV, Blu-ray player/audio receiver, and sound system integrated into a stand that can be customized to a buyer's taste. The electronics come from China's TCL Multimedia, though specs are thin.

The 1080p LED TV can be had in a number of sizes, again unspecified, and the system has Internet access and DiVX HD playback suport. The cables are hidden within the furniture for a clean, clutter-free look, and the wireless subwoofer comes in a matching color and can be placed anywhere in the room.

An FM radio is built in, along with four HDMI ports, USB inputs, and an auxiliary input. A single remote controls the entire system.

Users can specify a number of designs for the furniture surround the AV system, as well as the colors it comes it. The electronics components can also be had in various colors.

Prices will start at 6,500 Swedish kroner (nearly $960) when the system arrives in Stockholm, Milan, Paris, Gdansk, and Berlin in June. The fall will see a larger launch in more European countries and cities, with an even more widespread launch due for the spring of 2013. Unfortunately, whether North America is on that list isn't known. [via RegHardware]
