Galaxy Note premium apps revealed in new video

Note to get specialized Premium Suite apps


Samsung shed a good deal of light on its future plans regarding its software offerings for the Galaxy Note, releasing a video showcasing the capabilities of its coming Premium Suite of apps for the device. The Premium Suite, soon to be released along with the Note's Android 4.0 update, looks to contain a range of enhancements taking fuller advantage of the Note's unique capabilities.

The Premium Suite will be included in the Galaxy Note's Android 4.0 software upgrade, which was previously expected to arrive in earlier in 2012, but which the new video says will arrive in Spring 2012. The software additions will make better use of the Note's S-Pen, smoothing rough drawings into clean vector art, for example. The apps will include templates and tools for e-card creation, PDF annotation, and note taking of other types.

Additionally, Samsung's promotional video shows the Galaxy Note being used for fluid formula recognition, handwriting-based searching, and maintenance and scanning of multiple notebooks. While the video does appear to show a broader set of applications for the S-Pen, it is unknown whether the software update will address other performance concerns previously raised with the Note, such as issues with the camera and overall speed.

    And writing, actually hand writing notes, or best of all drawing with true pressure sensitivity just like on a portable Cintiq ROCKS!

    After a couple days the weirdest thing is ~

    picking up ANY other phone to realize how small and harder to view content on they are.

    No longer do you have to view "phone sized" websites, You can even make a presentation in a hurry off of the Note's screen, plus it's super AMOLED with an anti reflective coating so the colors are fully saturated even outdoors.

    You're right, every phone are toys right now, the Dell Streak is the best phone out there with a 5 inch screen, even better we should use an iPad for phone. Oh wait, do a phone is made to be mobile and be able to fit in a pocket?

    AMOLED is fad, I've toughs you were a professional. From a guy who praise Cintiq and AMOLED in the same thread you should know AMOLED screen are way to much saturated and offer a poor color accuracy. AMOLED is unusable for professional work.

    Beside a pure black which is non-issue outdoors, AMOLED doesn't have much advantage over LCD to covert their negative points.

    The size of ANY device -

    is mostly dependent on it's use. Several years ago phones were getting smaller and smaller, remember the Motorola StarTac? The modern tactile display & affordable mobile data plans changed that forever, to the point where the trend is completely reversed and now anything smaller than 4 inches is considered diminutive.

    If you wear tight leather pants all the time the Note will be an interesting but fashionably questionable addition. ;)

    Also, anything smaller than 10 inches can be regarded of questionable use by creative professionals.

    But maybe you are missing the point on the Note, it is not meant to replace a full sized device, or even set a new trend in phone design; it is a new class of device that can be used as an easily portable tablet with cellular connectivity.

    Certainly it's valid to think each device would work a lot better if kept separate, but then you would have to be making a choice of what to take with you when space is at a premium. The Note is good precisely because you can get the usability (more or less convenient depending on intended use...) of both anywhere.

    I'm not sure about you, but I get my best ideas away from the studio. those times either I'm lucky and have a napkin and pen with me, or try and trust my memory with a graphic solution to a design that just flashed by in an instant whilst jogging on the beach. Those are the times I wished there was something like the Note with me.

    Regarding AMOLED screens as a fad, only time will tell, I recall some years ago telling just that to a friend regarding TFT displays vs CRTs. The color accuracy on my Electron Blue 22 beat any LCD hands down...

    From the outset AMOLED screens are way more efficient and have a wider viewing angle, at least on the latest incarnations. Color accuracy will come down the line just like it did with LCDs.

    And besides, my tiny Note (compared with the large tablet at the studio) is not meant to be color accurate, I've heard at XDA that Samsung pumps up the contrast just to attract customers, just like digital camera makers did at when they were a couple Megapixels...

    If you do want color accuracy on the Note's and other AMOLED screens, I suggest you follow Supercurio (a very talented developer), on XDA for updates on his color correction App.

    With the Note you have pressure sensitivity (can even use larger digitizers & eraser end) level limited but similar to it's larger brother. And I will leave you with on last thought, the little Note can certainly do something my Cintiq will not do, not counting being wireless; you can use multi-touch gestures to pan and zoom, yes, whilst holding the stylus, you can pan around and even zoom transparently without leaving the drawing command!
