Sony launches unifying Nasne hybrid NAS, PVR

Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has announced the Nasne, a sophisticated network attached PVR that ties together a number of its frontline consumer electronics products. The device combines a multi-channel tuner that can receive digital and satellite TV signals with 500GB of storage. Recordings can then be viewed using an owner's PS3, Vaio PC, PS Vita, Tablet S/P, or Xperia handsets.

In addition, Nasne owners will also be able to stream live or recorded TV to up to two of Sony's supported devices simultaneously. Users will also be able to schedule recordings remotely or locally using their PS Vita, PC, tablet or smartphone. Users can also store their movies, music and photos on the Nasne and stream their content over DLNA. Its 500GB of on-board storage can also be supplemented by adding external storage devices using its built-in USB ports.

The way in which the device unifies a number of Sony's latest products has also moved freshly minted Sony CEO to issue a statement on its release. Hirai recently detailed his One Sony strategy to turn the fortunes of the ailing Japanese tech giant around and the Nasne would appear to exemplify Sony's strategy moving forward.

"We are offering a seamless and unique Sony experience through 'nasne,' which serves as a home entertainment hub that connects to Sony's various network products," said Hirai. Nasne will give users more freedom to enjoy television in new ways by enabling them to watch programs on various Sony products through dedicated applications. We will continue to offer attractive products and services that inspire customers around the world and spark their curiosity, by further enhancing collaboration within Sony groups."

The Nasne will ship in Japan from July 19 for around $210 with no indication that it will ship the device internationally at this time.
