updated 04:00 am EDT, Tue April 17, 2012

Stars and filmmakers will discuss new films

Two of Apple's New York City stores will be participating in the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival with free events and workshops throughout the week of the event, April 20-28. In addition to panels of filmmakers and actors, there will also be a "What's New in Filmmaking" event with product demos, and the company is also promoting an official Tribeca Film Festival app for iOS (free) in the App Store. Final Cut, iMovie and even the iWork suite will be the subject of daytime workshops as well.

The events will take place at the West 14h and Soho locations, and will feature notable artists including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Morgan Spurlock and Riley Keough. The lead-off event will be a "Meet the Filmmaker" panel at the West 14th store with Louis-Dreyfus and director Brad Hall of SNL fame discussing their new short, Picture Paris at 7 p.m. The following night, Morgan Spurlock and the cast of his new film Mansome (about male grooming) will be featured at the same time.

The West 14th store will focus on actors and directors panels in its events, while the Soho store will offer skills workshops such as "Location Scouting with Nick Carr," "Lighting Your Film with Daniel Choy Boyar," "Final Cut Pro X with Yan Shvalb" and "Effective Storytelling with Diana Weynand." Apple has a dedicated page up for Tribeca with full schedules for both stores.

Both stores will offer several regular workshops aimed at filmmakers, with topics including "iLife for Filmmakers," "Using Social Media for Your Film," "Coordinating Your Movie on a Mac," "Garageband Movie Scoring," "Logic Pro for Filmmakers" and "iWork for Filmmakers." The Soho store will add "Bento for Filmmakers" and "Podcasting for Filmmakers" workshops. There will also be the usual assortment of normal workshops for iMovie on Mac and iOS, Final Cut Pro X and Motion.
