Free GoPro firmware available this summer
At NAB 2012 today,Technicolor and GoPro revealed the new GoPro Protune firmware update, integrating the CineStyle color profile into the popular HD Hero2 Camera line. The firmware update, which will be available for free this summer, adds both 24 frames per second recording and a new 35 Mbps recording data rate.
The new 24 FPS option allows recordings to be easily edited into existing footage without transcoding from a higher framerate. Also added to the HD Hero2 via the update is a neutral color profile, with reduced automatic sharpening and noise reduction to ease post-production.
The HD Hero2 camera was released in the Fall of 2011 and is available in three separate packages (outdoor, motor sports, and surf editions) with accessories included to customize the camera and mountings according to the needs of the specific environment. Technicolor reports that more than 130,000 cinematographers currently use the CineStyle profile soon to be integrated into the HD Hero2.
