Huawei Ascend P1 to start shipping from May

Huawei has annouced that its ultra-slim Ascend P1 smartphone will start shipping in May. The Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) powered handset is one of the world’s thinnest at just 0.26-inches (6.68mm) thick. The first countries on the launch list include Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Huawei will then launch the device in Latin America in June with Europe in line to receive it in the summer. The North American market is at the back end of the official launch list as Huawei has developed better brand recognition in Asian markets in particular. However, it is likely that the device will be available through local importers in North American markets.

The Ascend P1 is powered by a 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 dual-core processor. It includes a faster 21Mbps HSPA+ 3G radio and centers on a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a 540x960 resolution. On the rear is an eight-megapixel camera capable of shooting video in 1080p. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA, a micro-HDMI port and 802.11n Wi-Fi. [via Slashgear]
