Mewshop debuts iPad add-on for video enthusiasts
Manhattan Edit Workshop founder Josh Apter has been showing off the Padcaster, an iPad attachment allowing users to turn their iPads into a near pro-level video recording setup. The $199 device was only announced this week, and is attracting interest from video professionals and hobbyists.
The Padcaster consists of a hard aluminum shell with a soft insert, which is molded to fit an iPad, though Apter states that versions will also be available for other tablets. Lenses, tripods, flashes, external mics, and other attachments can be mounted onto the aluminum shell, greatly increasing the video capture capabilities of the iPad.
The Padcaster is available for order, but its creator says that, just shortly after its announcement, the product slipped to being backordered for eight weeks. The Padcaster itself is available for $200, while an additional Lenscaster attachment, which lets users attach SLR optics to the iPad camera, sells for $60.
