Netflix adds 100 music concert, documentaries for streaming

Unannounced move a treasure trove for fans
Earlier this week, Netflix added about 100 rock concerts and documentaries to their US catalog. The selections lean heavily towards classic concerts featuring acts such as Queen, Deep Purple, and early ZZ Top. While Netflix is no stranger to music-related programming, such a large increase in the library of offerings without a pre-announcement is rare. All of the new additions are available for instant streaming.
The new list joins previous concerts for various age groups, from pre-teen favorites such as Hannah Montana (which has been available since 2008) to more mature concert footage from bands such as The Damned, Elvis Costello, and a Morrisey solo performance after his departure from the Smiths. Music documentaries like It Might Get Loud have also been seen on the service.
The last year has been tumultuous for Netflix. Various PR gaffes have plagued the company including awkwardly splitting the company into two separate entities, and the settling of a Video Privacy Protection Act violation forcing Netflix to pay a $9 million fine in fiscal year 2012 to settle the charges.
