Sony BDP-S790 due on May 6
Sony on Sunday said it was on the verge of shipping its most advanced Blu-ray player for the year, the BDP-S790. The networked movie hub is due to reach stores May 6. Pre-orders are starting now for the player, which costs $250.
The set-top is unique among Blu-ray players in having a dual-core processor, which gives it much more performance than most: it can upscale video to 4K resolution for matching 4K projectors and future 4K TVs. Its power also allows for converting 2D video to 3D in real-time, 16-bit image processing, and overall quicker response.
Wi-Fi comes built into the device, which taps both into the Sony Entertainment Network as well as several movie and music services, including Amazon Instant Video, Flixter, Netflix, Slacker, Pandora, and Vudu. Facebook and Twitter sharing as well as DLNA media sharing fill out online features.
