Huawei may make Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 devices

New phones expected by end of year

Should rumors prove accurate, Microsoft will soon have a new OEM partner offering Windows Phone 8 handsets and Windows 8 tablet products. Chinese smartphone giant Huawei is reportedly looking to debut new phones and tablets running Microsoft's upcoming system by the end of the year.

Until now, Huawei has been immersed in the release and promotion of its Android products, and the company only recently began working with Microsoft. Recently though, the company is rumored to have assembled a Windows Phone team 70-strong, which would begin developing hardware for Windows 8 for release later this year. In addition to proposed handsets for Windows Phone 8, Huawei is rumored to be working on tablets compatible with Windows 8.

Huawei has for some time been working to increase its presence in the American market, bringing its Ascend P1 to the US market and moving its R&D operations to Silicon Valley. The partnership with Microsoft represents an improvement in the two companies' relationship, as Huawei last year found itself negotiating licensing fees over purported patent infringements due to Huawei's use of Google's Android.
