RAZR MAXX to start shipping with Android 4.0
The German version of Motorola's RAZR MAXX could be one of the company's first phones to carry Android 4.0. A mention of Android 4.0 in the fact sheet shows the OS by name. No mention is made of any changes to Motorola's own interface layer along with the 4.0 upgrade.
The decision to roll in an upgrade comes even as other international launches, such as the UK, will still have the phone coming with Android 2.3. The Droid RAZR MAXX on Verizon launched earlier, coming with Android 2.3 as a matter of course.
German buyers should get the phones in May, giving a clue as to possible timing for other international upgrades to Android 4.0.
Motorola is one of the latecomers to Android 4.0 on phones. Outside of the original Xoom, which uses stock Android, most of its customers have yet to get 4.0. The company is silent on American updates and, based on Google I/O timing, may have Android 4.0 ready only after its replacement has been made public. [via Techfokus and The Verge]
