Verizon adds $80 prepaid plan, Jetpack 4510L hotspot

updated 07:30 pm EDT, Mon April 30, 2012

New prepaid plan, 4G hotspot due on May 1

Verizon Wireless has added new tiers to its phone and data prepaid offerings starting on May 1. A new $80 smartphone plan includes unlimited talk and text messaging while allotting 1GB of data use per month. At the same time, the carrier will ship the Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4510L with prepaid mobile packages.

The new prepaid voice and data plan is available on the Samsung Illusion. A prepaid package that includes the Android 2.3 device will retail for $170.

The Jetpack Mi-Fi 4510L hotspot, meanwhile, will share the 4G Internet connection with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices at the same time. Plan 4G LTE options include a $15 one for 250MB of data weekly, $60 for 3GB of data monthly, or $90 for 10GB of data monthly. A prepaid package will cost $130 and be available first in Verizon stores before coming to Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Walmart.

    Stupid dumb plan

    ____
$80 is four times what this should cost. Texting should be free. Data should be unlimited. Talk is pretty much unnecessary but unlimited is OK. Data plans are the main thing we need and $20 per month unlimited worldwide is about what it should cost tops.

    You mean: Greedy!

They are all charging way too much. And getting away with it.

    I agree

That's why I joined the beta waves for Republic Wireless. Too early to say how well it actually works but should be getting a phone this summer. Unlimited voice/text/data for $20/month without any contract. And that's what it SHOULD be.

Sounds like your average clueless person. Apple can sell an iPad for $600 and at 40% margins, but that's OK because it's supply and demand. But another company wants to charge anything that doesn't meet what YOU think it should cost, they're just greedy and gouging the customer.

And you're all the same ones complaining of how slow the companies are moving towards new tech, but then don't want to pay for said tech. Because at $20, there might be enough (doubtful) to cover costs, but not R&D. I'm sure you expect them to not charge you for R&D of future tech or rollouts, right. Just like you insist on not giving a company like Apple too much for a computer so they can make new killer products.
