NFC enabled streaming from phone to car, stereo
BlackBerry owners will soon have a new option for streaming music wirelessly from their handsets to a range of audio devices. RIM has set a release date for the BlackBerry Music Gateway, an accessory that relies on NFC and Bluetooth technology to stream from smartphones and tablets to home and car stereo systems. The device will begin shipping in June for $50.
The Music Gateway will plug into a range of audio systems using RCA or 3.5mm cables, allowing for BlackBerry owners to tap NFC enabled BlackBerry devices to the Gateway, or simply connect with standard Bluetooth. Upon connection, the BlackBerry can then be used to control playback, playlists, and volume for streaming music. Music automatically pauses when there is an incoming call and resumes upon the end of the call.
The new device replaces the BlackBerry Remote Stereo Gateway, which RIM introduced in 2008 in response to the increasing popularity of the iPhone and subsequent demand from smartphone customers for more media-friendly handhelds. [via CrackBerry]
