Next Nook will have NFC radio to read book information

In an interview with Fortune, Barnes & Noble CEO William Lynch revealed that the company's Nook e-book reader will get an NFC radio sometime in the future. It would be used to read the codes embedded into physical books that will contain editorial reviews also found on BN.com. Store displays and ads could also contain such information, letting potential customers read the synopsis or learn more about the author before purchase.

Exactly when the feature will arrive in the Nook wasn't specified, as Lynch would only say that it may arrive this year. The functionality will also require working together with publishers.

This means a new Nook model is nearing release. Barnes & Noble recently announced the Nook Simple Touch with Glow Light (pictured) which should be shipping this week to those who pre-ordered early.
