Dell to upgrade notebooks for free with similarly-priced Ivy Bridge
With Dell recently revealing that its three Alienware gaming notebooks were upgraded to Intel Ivy Bridge processors, those who ordered the PCs before the announcement may have felt slightly cheated. Dell has some good news, however, as it will upgrade the ordered notebooks to similarly-priced Ivy Bridge processors for free. This includes the M14x, M17x, and M18x.
Along with the upgrade to Ivy Bridge, the notebooks get other changes, with the M14x including the option of WirelessHD. It can also now be had with two SSD drives and an optical drive, whereas before two drives meant no optical disc drive. A Blu-ray drive can also be selected.
The M17x now also becomes the first gaming notebook to offer the option of a 2GB AMD Radeon 7970M. The M18x gives users the option of putting three solid state drives. The audio hardware has also been updated on all three models.
The M14x starts at $1,100, the M14x at $1,500, and the M18x at $2,000.
