Card payment system goes up against Square

PayAnywhere has declared that it will start shipping its own credit card reader later this month. Backed by North American Bancard, the mobile payment system will attempt to compete against other recent launches with a "free" card reader, and no monthly fee.

The reader competes against technology created by Square and VeriFone, similarly connecting to a headphone jack. Although listed as free, the PayAnywhere reader will initially cost $10, with an automatic rebate credited back once $150 in sales is processed. Instead of a monthly fee, the plan is to rely on a 2.69 percent take per transaction.

The announcement of a BlackBerry app to go along with free iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play) versions will differentiate PayAnywhere from others in the growing mobile transactions market. As Square, Verifone, and others continue to push for card-based transactions, though, the increasing use of NFC (near-field communications) in handsets may pose a challenge.

I started using PayAnywhere’s app for my company in December. It’s inexpensive, I’ve received all of my funds on time with no problem and I love their customer service. I’d definitely recommend it. http://www.payanywhere.com/home
