Wireless charger for Galaxy S III delayed until September

updated 10:24 am EDT, Wed May 9, 2012

Samsung looking for third-party supplier to maker Galaxy S III charger?

The official wireless charger for the Galaxy S III unveiled last week won't ship until September, learned from UK retailer Mobile Fun, who will sell the accessory. That's between about three and four months later than the phone's launch, depending on which market one's in. Included in the kit is a replacement rear battery cover that likely adds thickness to the handset and a desk cradle that will wirelessly charge the device.

At the London launch event, the accessory wasn't displayed, with only photos of it on the projection screen available. Mobile Fun believes the delay is due to Samsung and Qualcomm working on a new Alliance for Wireless Power standard they announced just yesterday and it's trying to get a third-party accessory done as quickly as possible.

The Galaxy S III will arrive in Europe at the end of May, with US availability slated for the summer and Canadian providers committing to a June launch.
