Fujifilm XP170 is waterproof, dust, drop and temperature proof

Fuji has taken the wraps off its new waterproof FinePix XP170 with wireless image transfer capabilities. The new point and shoot camera is waterproof to 10 meters, is built to support drops of up to 2 meters and can also operate in temperatures down to -10 degrees Celcius. It can also share photos wirelessly to iOS and Android devices using the free Fujifilm Photo Receiver companion app.

In addition to being dust proof, the ruggedized FinePix XP170 incorporates a sealed battery compartment with a double lock, a shockproof bumper design, a water repellant lens coating as well as an anti-slip rubber grip. Keeping in line with its adventure and outdoor use theme, the XP170 also incorporates a 2.7-inch viewfinder that utilizes an anti-reflective coating offering clear visibility in both direct sunlight and underwater.

The FinePix XP170 uses a 14-megapixel CMOS sensor, while its 28mm wide lens offers users a 5x optical zoom. ISO sensitivity is rated at 3200, while it also offers CMOS shift image stabilization and continuous autofocus. It will shoot movies in the H.264 (MOV) in resolutions up to 1080p. Photos and videos can also be displayed over its built-in HDMI micro connector to a TV set. An HD video kit also includes a wireless remote to control camera playback.

The Fujifilm FinePix XP170 is expected to ship in both blue and orange options this June for $280.
