Harry Potter ebook lending possible step for Amazon sales

Amazon will be providing the Harry Potter series of books to users of the Kindle Owners' Lending Library in the near future. The all-time bestselling book series has been licensed from JK Rowling's Pottermore, and joins the existing 145,000 titles already available for reading.

Pottermore is the only retailer of the digital Harry Potter books, seen as a way for Rowling to control pricing and avoid the fighting between e-book retailers for exclusives. The step Amazon is taking in lending the series through the Lending Library system could be seen as a step towards selling the books directly in the future, instead of linking to the Pottermore store.

Amazon's Lending Library is open to Prime members who own the Kindle e-reader, and will make the complete Harry Potter series available in five languages from June 19.
