Analysts: iOS Chrome to spark browser wars

Macquarie sees new browser wars imminent

Google is likely to launch a version of its Chrome browser for Apple's iOS line of devices in the coming months, according to analysts at Macquarie Capital. Macquarie sees the iOS Chrome launch as the opening salvo in a new round of Browser Wars, the likes of which the Internet hasn't seen since the late 1990s.

The research firm views iOS Chrome as a key means for Google to reduce its traffic acquisition costs, the price Google pays to Apple to drive iOS users to search through Google. Taking into account Chrome's successes in attaining market share in the desktop world, Macquarie's analysts see a wider mobile push as the logical next step for Google's browser.

Macquarie sees Chrome for iOS debuting sometime in the second quarter of 2012, with a significant marketing campaign in support of the mobile browser. Google is known to be working to spread use of its Chrome browser to as many platforms as possible. Having already released Chrome for its Android mobile platform, Google is also working on bringing Chrome to Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 8 operating system.

    Success Awaits it!

Maybe not. I notice that Safari's share of the browser market is around the same as its share in the Mac market. It appears that most Mac people stick with Safari. I assume the same would be seen for iOS too.

Actually, I've recently switch from Google Chrome on Windows to IE 9. Something I never thought I'd ever say.

Apple May Block Chrome on iOS

How likely is it that Apple will allow Google to deploy their Chrome browser on the iOS platform? I say very unlikely.

Eh, I'm sorta sick and wary of

    Google now. I'll pass, thanks.

    IE9 ... a miracle

Though my time testing it was limited (and I didn't compare it to Chrome) I would say that IE9 is the best web-based product MS have put out in years. It's miles ahead of their previous releases. Somebody in the bowels of MS has finally *gotten the freakin' memo* and that's nice to see.

Safari on Windows is still, to put it kindly, second-rate. And though I didn't test Chrome, not only am I wary of Google generally but I'm completely sick of this "new major version every three weeks" kick they're on. Chrome 20 is LITERALLY a few weeks away. They've gone mad as far as I'm concerned.
