updated 02:52 pm EDT, Thu May 17, 2012

First LG handset running ICS with 2GB of RAM

LG has unveilled the Optimus LTE II in Korea. Successor to the Optimus LTE and other Optimus variants, the handset claims to be the world's first smartphone to be released with 2GB of RAM, shortly before the Samsung Galaxy S III reaches Japan in its own RAM-boosted state.

The device will have a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display with a 550-nit brightness and 1280x720 resolution, powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm chip that combines the LTE modem and application processor. Android 4.0 will be onboard, making it the first LG smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich. An eight-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera benefit from added features such as Best Shot and Voice Shutter. A 2,150mAh removable battery and Bluetooth 4.0 round off the specs list.

LG will release the phone in Korea this week, with international markets to be announced in the future.
