Subwoofer interacts wireless system

Sonos has introduced the Sub, a wireless subwoofer designed to work alongside the company's amplified systems with wireless support. The resin cabinet integrates a pair of acoustic ports and speaker cones, each facing inward in a configuration that is claimed to eliminate buzz or rattle, while dual Class D amplifiers provides the power.

The filter settings, equalization management, and time alignment are all said to be handled by integrated DSP circuitry for "zero-loss audio quality." Sonos utilizes its own proprietary wireless system, rather than embracing Bluetooth, AirPlay or other standards.

The Sub works with all of the company's amplified components, including the Connect:Amp, ZonePlayer 120, ZonePlayer 100, Play:5, and Play:3, however it is incompatible with the basic Connect, ZonePlayer 90 and ZonePlayer 80.

The company expects the Sub to arrive mid-June with a gloss black finish for $699, ahead of a separate model with a matte finish.
