Microsoft adds Nokia map enhancements to Bing maps
Following last year's Microsoft partnership with Nokia, Bing Maps is the latest product to see a benefit. Starting today, users in 24 countries will be able to view active traffic data in Bing Maps as a result of Nokia services integration. United States traffic coverage will include side street traffic as well as freeway information. Behind the scenes, Nokia's geocoding services are now being used to offer improved turn-by-turn directions.
Sony Mobile delists Android 4.0 upgrade for Xperia Play
A Sony Mobile Android 4.0 upgrade page has been updated, and any mention of the Xperia Play receiving Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) has been removed. A beta version of the upgrade for the phone was posted by Sony in March, with attendant remarks by Sony stating that it was interested in discovering "how the gaming experience works on ICS." No explanation was given for the removal.
Time Warner Cable TV app update posted, receives mixed reviews
The official Time Warner Cable app (free, App Store), promising users the ability to "watch your favorite shows and control your TV on the iPad and iPhone," has been updated to version 2.6.2 , with mixed end-user results. Support for the iPad Retina Display has been added, as well as "performance enhancements and minor bug fixes." Users report that HDMI output has been removed, as well as numerous and frequent time-out errors. The same subscribers questioning the removal of the HDMI out feature have been requested to purchase another cable box instead of using the feature present in previous versions.
