Rumored Google tablet shows up sporting quad-core Tegra 3

Rumors of a forthcoming Nexus tablet received a bit more support today, as the device has shown up in a benchmark test conducted on Rightware's Power Board. The benchmark test appears to confirm a number of features expected for the device, including its screen size, resolution, processor, and operating system.

Rightware's benchmark test currently shows the specs for a "Google Asus Nexus 7," which aligns with the partnership previously rumored to be behind at least one Nexus tablet. Asus was said to have been among Google's preferred potential partners, as others were ruled out due to lack of internal research or an unwillingness to collaborate on a seven-inch tablet. There was also talk that certain manufacturers were unwilling to allow Google to take the reins in designing the tablet.

The specs shown off in the Rightware posting also align with expectations. The device appears to have a seven-inch, 768x1280 display. It runs Android 4.1, a build of Google's forthcoming "Jelly Bean" OS upgrade. Inside, the tablet packs a quad-core Tegra 3 Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.3GHz.

Some expect the Nexus tablet to debut sometime around the Google I/O conference in June, though recent rumors have the date slipping to July in order to trim the price. With a rumored introductory price of between $149 and $199, the Nexus tablet would be in direct competition with Amazon's Kindle Fire, which debuted to the best sales of any Android tablet, only to see those sales plummet after the holiday season.
