Google Fiber IP set top box shows up at the FCC

Google Fiber set-top box is made by Humex, gets a generous amount of connections
A new Google-branded IP set top box has undergone testing by the FCC, backing earlier rumors that the company is planning on bringing out a cable TV service. While it may be relegated to where Google Fiber is offered, which is thus far only in Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas. The box carries the GFHD100 model number and is manufactured by Humax.
The device's MAC address is registered to Google directly and the test report reveals that it gets a Wi-Fi radio, an IR receiver, USB port, Ethernet connection, HDMI in and out, as well as a MoCA bridge. The connections mimic many of Verizon's FiOS boxes.
When the box will go on sale remains to be seen, but the FCC won't stay in Google's way after this approval. Google's Fiber promises to deliver internet speeds as fast as 1Gbps, which is about 100 times faster than what is currently available from traditional, non-optical fiber ISPs. [via Engadget]
