Drobo shows Thunderbolt-equipped NAS at Computex

A new Thunderbolt Drobo storage device has been seen at Taiwan's Computex. While no testing was possible, nor have any specifics been announced at the show, Drobo representatives claim the move to Thunderbolt should boost the transfer speeds by up to 20 times. Pictures taken by TheVerge show a unit with four 2.5-inch drive bays, two Thunderbolt ports, and a single USB3 port. No pricing nor ship date has been announced.

4Big Rack Office bolsters LaCie storage line

Storage manufacturer LaCie is rolling out a new high-capacity rack-mounted network attached storage (NAS) unit -- the 4Big Rack Office. Equipped with a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, and Windows Home Sever 2011, the device supports SMB, NFS, and FTP file transfer protocols. The drives can be configured in either a RAID 1 or RAID 5 configuration. LaCie's Wuala secure cloud storage service is included free for three months with purchase. Eight terabytes of storage is available for a MSRP of $1299, with upgrades available at extra cost.

Insider Software's FontAgent drifts into the cloud

Insider Software has announced FontAgent Pro Cloud Server, a cross-platform, cloud-based font server offered as an Internet service. The web service provides all the functions of an in-house server-based solution, such as synchronization of fonts across all users, a centralized library of verified fonts, and font license compliance management. A persistent Internet connection is not required for users. FontAgent Pro CloudServer is available from $3.50 to $6.95 a month per user.
