Samsung brings new content, premium apps

Samsung has begun rolling out an Android 4.0 update for UK owners of the Galaxy Note. The update is available for the unlocked Galaxy Note, while Note owners with a handset tied to a carrier will have to wait for carrier approval. The update, which became available for German and Dutch Note owners last month, will bring the latest Android operating system to Samsung's "phablet," as well as specially-designed software meant to take advantage of the Note's novel stylus peripheral.

The Android 4.0 update will bring with it a reworked user interface, as well as a Face Unlock security feature. Users will also get access to a suite of premium apps designed especially for the Note. These include templates and tools for e-card creation, note taking, and PDF annotation. The Premium Suite will also bring formula recognition, handwriting-based search, and maintenance and scanning of multiple notebooks.

The boundary-straddling Note has seen considerable success since its debut. Samsung announced in March that global shipments for the Note had surpassed five million units, of which two million had sold. The company followed the announcement with news that by May the Note had sold two million units in South Korea alone.
