Seeks possible expansion of app to other subjects and platforms

Pop-culture and retro label Shout Factory has bought the Video Time Machine iOS app [$2.99, App Store]. In a deal with undisclosed terms, Original Victories sold the classic movie and TV app to the label. The buyer is said to be considering new sponsorship deals and planning to release an equivalent app for Android devices.

Video Time Machine lets users look at commercials, trailers, classic film clips, and TV show scenes by searching for the year and genre. The Political Time Machine and Holiday Time Machine apps also form part of the deal, collecting political content and holiday-themed items as separate offerings.

Shout Factory sees the apps as a perfect fit with its own business, namely sales of classic movies and songs on CD and DVD. Garson Foos, company president of Shout Factory, advised to The Hollywood Reporter that they think “this can go in a lot of different directions, and probably not in any that we're thinking about right now.”
