10.1-inch tablet sports 1080p, Tegra 3 quad-core
Acer announced today that the new Acer Iconia Tab A700 is now available for pre-sale in the United States and Canada. The 10.1-inch tablet features a "Full HD" screen and long battery life, as well as a variety of output ports. Notably, the A700 manages to undercut a comparably-equipped Apple iPad on price.
The 10-point touch capacitive, 1920x1200 display has a 16:10 aspect ratio, 800:1 contrast ratio, and 178-degree viewing angle. The A700 sports a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and a 12-core Nvidia GeForce GPU. The tablet runs Android 4.0 and has 32GB of internal memory, which can be expanded using the device's built-in SD card slot. The 9800mAh battery in the device can support up to 10.5 hours of video playback.
Acer notes the device's audio capabilities as a key feature. The A700 has Dolby Mobile 3 with 5.1-channel home theater surround sound capabilities. Also, the tablet's sound recording function suppresses background noise in order to improve the quality of recording and video conferencing.
The A700 comes with two cameras. The 5MP rear-facing camera has auto-focus and records HD video. The 1MP fixed-focus front-facing camera features an improved zoom and is used for video conferencing.
The A700 comes with a microUSB port and a micro-HDMI port for output. The tablet supports dual displays, as well, allowing users to play games on their televisions or share images and videos. The Acer Print feature makes the A700 compatible with 87 percent of brand name printers, and the tablet's Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology can connect with printers, headsets, and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.
Electronista went hands-on with the A700 back in January. At 1.47 pounds, the device was light enough to handle easily. We found the HD display to be stunning and well ahead of any of its then-current competition. The quad-core processor was able to handle interface transitions and gaming with no noticeable lag.
The Iconia Tab A700 is available for pre-sale starting today at Acer's online store and at national retailers in the United States. The A700 comes with Acer Print, Polaris Office 3.5, and VirusScan Mobile pre-installed, along with a number of other e-reading, gaming, file sharing, and multimedia apps. The tablet is available in two models, silver and black. Both models have an MSRP of $450.
