Nokia Facebook page teases event for June 18
Nokia appears to be preparing an announcement for Monday involving its 808 Pureview smartphone. Images and posts on Nokia's Facebook page have been hinting since yesterday that some event was scheduled for Monday, and it appears to concern the 41MP 808 Pureview. The company has yet to reveal any further details and is instead continuing to tease images related to the event.
Since yesterday, Nokia has posted three images to its Facebook page featuring "06.18.12." The most recent is a cropped shot of the artwork from 808 State's album ex:el. Other shots include a satellite image of Hawaii, which is home to the 808 area code. The cover photo for Nokia's Facebook page has also been changed to read "PureView. Like." The most recent post simply states "808 reasons to be excited about Monday."
The 41MP camera has been a major point of emphasis for Nokia in marketing the 808. Two months ago, the company showed off a stylish promotional video, shot entirely with the PureView's camera, that showed off the capabilities of the smartphone. The 808 was released internationally running the soon to be defunct Symbian OS, but Nokia so far has only hinted at the possibility of a North American launch. Earlier this year, job posting suggested that the PureView could show up running Windows Phone. Notably, the 808 event shares a date with a Microsoft event scheduled somewhere in Los Angeles.
