Nokia site confirms US PureView launch

Nokia's big news on the 808 PureView appears to be that the smartphone will indeed be coming to the United States. A new product page on Nokia's website confirmed today that the smartphone, outfitted with a 41-megapixel camera sensor, will be launching in the US sometime in the near future, though the company has yet to provide specific details surrounding a launch date or carrier partners. The news seems to confirm earlier rumors regarding a US launch, even though details on the phone's arrival remain sketchy.

According to the product page, the PureView will still feature Nokia's now-defunct Symbian Belle operating system. This flies in the face of earlier rumors that the company was working on bringing Windows Phone to the PureView, though it remains possible that some future version of the phone may feature Microsoft's operating system.

Nokia's site gives no details on pricing, launch date, or availability. Previous reports have indicated that the phone would be sold directly to customers in an unlocked state. Electronista went hands-on with the PureView back in February, finding the imaging and video capture capabilities of the device to be quite remarkable. Unfortunately, the reliance on the awkward and crash-prone Symbian OS was a sizable detractor for the device.
