Lack of Windows Phone 8 upgrade seen as stumbling block

T-Mobile in Germany will not be stocking the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone. A forum post by a member of T-Mobile's support team advises that it is due to not having an upgrade path to Windows Phone 8, followed by customer frustration if the handset was bought then found not to be included in future updates, according to The Unwired.

The blog explained that, although the posting by a support agent on a forum may sound to be a non-credible source of information, German telecommunications firms are extremely strict when it comes to issuing information to the public, so such information would have been approved beforehand. The Unwired was subsequently contacted by T-Mobile Germany, advising that the forum post “isn't an official statement from Deutsche Telekom,” but did say there were numerous possible reasons why a handset would or would not be added to their roster.

In April, Microsoft Evangelist Nuno Silva commented that all Windows Phone devices, including first-generation models, would get Windows Phone 8. He later clarified the statement in the days following, claiming to confuse app compatability with phone updatability. There has still not been any comment as to how the Windows Phone 8 release will affect first-generation handsets, with the current best guess being that it will be limited to second-generation handsets and later.
