Chevy models to be among first to feature Siri

The Siri Eyes-Free feature that was first shown off at Apple's developer conference earlier this month will be appearing in future versions of Chevrolet's Spark and Sonic models. Sources tell GM Authority that the Spark and Sonic will be among the first cars to feature integration with Apple's digital assistant. The automaker has yet to confirm the news with an announcement, but one may be forthcoming within the next 12 months.

Siri integration in the Spark and Sonic would represent something of a reversal in Chevrolet's usual technology strategy. Typically, the company implements technological advancements in its high-end models before allowing them to trickle down to less expensive cars. The Spark and Sonic already feature Chevrolet's smartphone-driven MyLink entertainment feature, though; and both are targeted at younger, more tech-savvy buyers, for whom Siri would likely be a considerable draw.

Ford was notably absent from the list of automakers Apple named as partners for the Eyes Free platform. Ford already has its own Sync platform, developed in concert with Microsoft, which features capabilities similar to many of those seen in Eyes Free. A first-generation Sync module was recently enshrined in the Computer History Museum, and the automaker continues to develop the platform. [via Left Lane News]

Um, how is this any more eye's free than using a bluetooth headset and talking to siri? Or using the cars' built-in bluetooth capability?
