$99 box announced today
Vizio has announced its new Co-Star Stream Player. The new set-top box is powered by Google TV and integrates game streaming service OnLive, with extra hardware to take advantage of the gaming addition.
The Co-Star's Google TV search feature allows users to browse websites and stream movies and TV shows from a variety of sources. Users will have access to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, and iHeartRadio, among other services.
The OnLive integration allows users to demo, watch, and play big-name video games using OnLive's cloud gaming system. The Co-Star comes with an OnLive gamepad, which is compatible with most major game releases.
In addition to the gamepad, the Co-Star comes with a universal Bluetooth remote that features a touchpad, allowing users to tap and scroll for navigation, along with a full QWERTY keyboard for easier text entry. Capable of connecting to any HDTV with an HDMI input, the Co-Star supports 720p, 1080i, and 1080p resolutions, as well as 3D output. It also comes with 802.11n Wi-Fi built in.
The Co-Star will be available to pre-order starting in July from vizio.com. Units are priced at $100, and there is an introductory offer for free shipping while supplies last.
